Mozambique

Palm fringed beaches, Indian Ocean coastline and idyllic archipelagos of tropical islands, Mozambique is home to many of Africa's finest retreats and marine parks. Walk along long stretches of white sandy beach, sand through your toes, overlooking the ocean with every hue of blue. Mozambique is a dream for every diver or sun seeking lovers.

Kenya

Wonderful, just utterly stunning. This is how visitors to Kenya frequently describe their stay. Kenya is the place where safari was born and has spectacular wildlife, fantastic cultural diversity and breathtakingly landscapes. But more importantly, Kenya can cater safaris for all budgets.

Botswana

Botswana is also called 'Africas Eden" and once you have visited you know why. Visit the famous Okavango Delta, or Chobe National Park for mesmerizing safari experiences or visit the Kalahari desert for amazing nature experiences.

Namibia

Rwanda

Africa's easiest and most accessible gorilla trekking is the main reason why safari lovers love to go to Rwanda. From its capital Kigali, its only a few hours drive from Volcanoes National Parks and its habituated but still wild gorillas.

Democratic Republic of Congo

Not for the faint hearted, we must admit. But if you have been on safari for a couple of times, Congo is your next destination. The exhilarating treks through the forest, searching for Gorillas is something you will never forget. If you want to do a multiple day hike and walk from camp to camp through waist deep water, eye to eye with elephants and buffalo, this is your destination.

Zambia is a landlocked country that is situated in southern Africa. It is filled with natural attractions which can rival almost any competitor on the continent. The remoteness and sheer size of its large network of beautiful national parks translate to an excellent opportunity of meeting massive mammals, experiencing very personal service and experience the uniqueness of private safaris. One of the reasons why you should visit Zambia is because of its fantastic walking safari possibilities, the untouched wilderness experience and the country mimics Botswana in its water based activities.

Zimbabwe

Uganda is a unique destination offering a wonderful mix of savannah and forest parks. Gorilla and chimp trekking are highlights, but many smaller primates can be seen as well. Uganda also offers great savannah safaris, and all of the Big Five are present. Lion is quite common in Queen Elizabeth, Murchison Falls and Kidepo national parks, where they can often be found hunting Uganda kob.

We just love Richards Camp because it is excusive in set-up; there are only 6 tents. When looking out of your bathroom window in the morning, chances are high a zebra or two look back at you.

El Karama, Kenya

Tucked away in the heart of Laikipia you will find the award winning eco lodge el Karama . The small lodge is beautifully set up and overlooks Mt Kenya, the Aberdaresa and the Lolldaiga Hills. Governors Camp Kenya

The Governors’ Camps in Masai Mara are located on the banks of the Mara River, and during colonial rule, were reserved only for Kenya’s governors. Governors Camp is by far the best value for money accommodation in the Mara and it consist of 37 tents all with fabulous views over the river.

Cottars Kenya

Cottars 1920 camp is situated on a hillside within a small private concession bordering the south eastern corner of the Masai Mara.
Cottar’s 1920s is one of the Mara’s most exclusive and upmarket camps, featuring a classic and colonial style as the name suggests. The camp is run by Calvin and Louise Cottar whose family have hosted safaris in Kenya since the colonial days. Attention to detail and personal service are complimented by expert guiding and fine dining. The accommodation is very comfortable, retaining an authentic tented feel and having quite luxurious furnishings. Staying in Cottars will bring you back to a long gone are.

Greystone Mahale, Tanzania

Set in an isolated location, the camp is accessed by charter flight and local pirogue down the stunning Lake Tanganyika. Accommodation is in six exotic wooden bandas overlooking the white sand beach. This luxurious camp is located in a small sandy bay lined with palm trees and backing on to the lush green slopes of the Mahale Mountains; this area of western Tanzania is home to the world’s largest populations of chimpanzees, which guests can observe amongst the vines, waterfalls, exotic birds and butterflies. As well as chimpanzee tracking, many water-based activities are on offer, from snorkelling to fishing.

Mara Expedition Camp, Kenya

Mara Expedition Camp is a magical revisiting of the past, drawing from Africa’s original explorers’ designs and designed for those who search for East Africa’s romantic safari era. It is safari chic with six light and airy, spacious canvas tents, each with en-suite bathrooms where you enjoy piping hot water from huge brass safari showers. It is tucked away under the grove of Africa ebony trees, and at night, the main area is lit by lantern and candlelit, simple in design, but just enough for all the comforts.

Beho Beho, Tanzania

Beho Beho is without doubt a magical place, one of the best for the Selous for sure. Beho Beho is on top of a small hill in the cooler highlands so it enjoys the cooling breezes from which its name derives. While Beho Beho is known as a camp it is more of a lodge with permanent buildings throughout including the rooms. Each of the 9 en-suite rooms, or bandas as they are known locally, are built out of local stone and palm leaf thatch. They are enormous with the most beautiful views of the bush and furnished with colonial era.furniture.

Who we are?

The Short Safari team is continuously working to find the best possible safari places for you. We have been in the safari industry for a long time…15 years and counting. Natalie Masseus, founder of Short Safaris has lived in Gabon and has been in charge of setting up eco-tourism in the Congo Basin. She has visited approximately half of the African countries and she spends a large amount of time in Africa trying to find new and exciting places for your visits. Short Safaris know how some of the lodges have evolved over time, which of them are exceptionally good and why. We have been to all the places we cover on this site and we know all the details of each accommodation or area. We like to support local run family businesses in each of the safari countries.
